Summary
The Veterans Affairs Native American Direct Loan program offers VA backed mortgage loans through participating lenders for Native Americans who veterans of the US Military. This program require no downpayment, is a fixed 30-year mortgage with a low interest rate, and has limited closing costs. This program is not a one-time use, and the homebuyer is able to use it again to buy another property so long as the requirements are met a second time as well. There may be VA funding fees associated with the loan depending on the lending company chosen. There is also no penalty if the loan is paid off early.
Eligibility Requirements
- The applicant’s tribal government has a Memorandum of Understanding with Veteran Affairs.
- The applicant(s) or their spouse is Native American.
- The property must be the applicant’s primary residence.
- The loan is only used to purchase, build, or improve a property on federal trust land.
- The applicant(s) meets the lender’s credit requirements.
- The applicant(s) has a valid VA home loan Certificate of Eligibility.
- The applicant must use a participating lender.
