Empower Maryland Low Income Energy Efficiency Program

Summary

The Empower Maryland Low Income Energy Efficiency Program is an initiative aimed at helping low-income households in Maryland save money on their energy bills by providing energy efficiency upgrades to their homes. The program is funded by the state's EmPOWER Maryland initiative and is administered by the Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD). Eligibility Requirements

  • The applicant(s) must have a household income that is at or below 60% of the State Median Income (SMI) for Maryland. The income limits vary depending on the number of people in the household.
    The applicant(s) must be residents of Maryland and either own or rent their home.
  • The applicant(s) must agree to allow a contractor to conduct an energy audit of their home and perform energy efficiency improvements. The improvements may include, but are not limited to, insulation, air sealing, HVAC upgrades, and lighting upgrades.
  • The applicant(s) must also provide proof of income, provide proof of homeownership or rental agreement, and not have received similar energy efficiency services within the past five years.
