Maryland Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP)

Summary

The Maryland Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) is a program designed to help low-income homeowners and renters in Maryland reduce heating and cooling costs through energy conservation measures, while also addressing health and safety issues in their homes. The program provides solutions to help lower energy costs, improve home health, and safety. The program is the largest residential energy conservation program in the country. The exact amount of the Maryland Energy Assistance grant a person receives is based on the type of fuel used, among other factors. Applicants to the program are automatically referred to the Weatherization Assistance Program, unless they opt out on the OHEP application. If qualified, applicants will be contacted by the WAP office.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Total household income of the applicant must be at or below 200% of the poverty income guidelines.
  • The applicant(s) must receive Supplemental Security Income or Aid to Families with Dependent Children.
  • Priority is given to Marylanders who are older than the age of 60, those with disabilities, those with children in the home, and households with a high energy usage and/or energy burden.
