Summary
The City of Bowie Homebuyer Assistance Program provides grants in the form of closing cost assistance to first-time homebuyers who are teachers, persons with disabilities, City government employees, or police officers purchasing a home in the City. The program aims to promote home ownership and help individuals in these professions purchase a home in the city. The program is offered in cooperation with the State of Maryland. The George's County Neighborhood Stabilization Program, Down Payment and Closing Costs, and Bowie Mortgage Assistance programs are other programs available for assistance with down payment and closing costs.
Eligibility Requirements
- The applicant(s) must be a first-time homebuyer, meaning the applicant has not owned a home in the last three yearsThe applicant(s) must have a maximum household income that is at or below 80% of the area median income (AMI) for Prince George's County.
- The applicant(s) must have a minimum credit score of 640
- The applicant(s) must complete a homebuyer education course approved by the City of Bowie.
- The applicant(s) must contribute a minimum of $2,000 of their own funds toward the purchase of the home.
- The applicant(s) must purchase a home located in the City of Bowie, Maryland.
- Note that the program has limited funding and applicants must apply on a first-come, first-served basis.
